MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Yoga
Although yoga is sometimes thought of only as a kind of physical exercise, it is really an emotional and spiritual practice as well. Yoga utilizes a combination of breathing patterns and physical movements designed to help its practitioners focus their mind on the present, release physical and emotional tension, and unite mind and body. The result is a more balanced, at-peace and harmonious self. That’s why we offer holistic therapy yoga in San Diego at Solara Mental Health.
Yoga has been shown to be a highly effective component in the treatment of a variety of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorders and schizophrenia. Biologically, this makes sense: physically moving through yoga poses releases oxytocin, serotonin, dopamine and endorphins. These chemicals increase and improve social functioning, inner stability and peace, mood and an overall sense of wellness. At Solara Mental Health, we want our clients to experience all of these positive benefits, and as such, we integrate yoga into our comprehensive treatment programs for a variety of mental health disorders.
Health Benefits
In addition to the broad health benefits already described, yoga provides a variety of more specific health benefits to those who regularly practice it:
- Improved physical flexibility, strength and endurance
- Lower stress levels
- Higher sleep quality
- Enhanced physical immunity
- Strengthened ability to cope with painful emotions or stressors
- Increased ability to live in the present
- Greater self-awareness and overall sense of mind-body unity
Yoga at Solara Mental Health
At our mental health treatment center, our yoga teachers are experienced and kind, ready to help clients of all experience and fitness levels as they practice yoga. Our teachers will never push clients past their physical or emotional comfort zones; instead, they encourage clients to listen to their bodies and recognize those limits as they arise. Clients practice a combination of mindfulness, breathing exercises and physical movements that promotes self-awareness, encourages the practice of emotional regulation during times of stress and enhances appreciation for the physical body and its capabilities. Through yoga, clients can promote self-healing not only during Solara’s program, but after it as well, making yoga a vital tool for both immediate and long-lasting confidence and wellness.
